Customer Success Story: Accelerating WMS Releases - 85% Faster Deployments

By

About Atlanta Bonded Warehouse

Atlanta Bonded Warehouse (ABW) is a leading third-party logistics (3PL) provider of integrated warehousing, transportation, and co-packaging solutions across the Southeast. ABW specializes in temperature-controlled management of consumer packaged goods (CPG).

In 2024, ABW handled 730 million cases and 9 million pallets across 7.5 million square feet of space spanning seventeen facilities. Its in-house carrier, Colonial Cartage Corporation, complements ABW's warehousing and co-packaging services with LTL coverage across the Southeast, Southwest, Midwest, and Great Plains.

The Challenge

As software delivery demands grew, ABW's team was under steady pressure to release Blue Yonder WMS updates faster while keeping every environment consistent. The existing deployment process leaned heavily on manual work.

  • Each rollout required significant coordination between teams, with manual steps that created room for human error.
  • Repository management lacked a standard, so tracking what had been deployed where was slow and uncertain.
  • When something broke, troubleshooting took extra effort just to locate the source of the problem.

With each deployment taking 30 to 40 minutes and two to three deployment-related incidents per month, the team needed a more reliable and repeatable approach that could scale with the business.

The Solution

K2S implemented its Rollout Automation solution: a standardized, version-controlled release pipeline for Blue Yonder WMS built on Jenkins and BitBucket. The solution replaced ad-hoc manual steps with one consistent, repeatable workflow that gives the team control and visibility over every release.

  • Standardized repository management. A consistent repository structure and naming convention replaced ad-hoc organization, so teams can see exactly what exists and where.
  • Automated build and packaging. The pipeline assembles each rollout automatically and includes only the objects that actually changed, keeping releases clean and predictable.
  • Instance-first deployment. Selecting the target environment first improved deployment accuracy and reduced the risk of overwriting files during a rollout.
  • Version control and traceability. Every change is tracked in Git, giving the team a clear history of what shipped, when, and to which environment.
  • Real-time monitoring and backup. Console-level status on each deployment, with logging and backup built into the process.

The Results

The impact was immediate. What had required extensive manual effort became a workflow the team could run with confidence.

Beyond the numbers, ABW reported gains across the board: easier repository maintenance, less manual code synchronization, better tracking of changes, higher release confidence, and stronger collaboration between teams. The team adapted quickly to the new process and would recommend expanding the automation approach.

What Made the Difference

Asked to name the single most significant improvement, the team kept returning to one theme: standardization and traceability. By establishing one consistent, automated deployment process, ABW gained confidence in every release and built a foundation it can scale on.

Looking Ahead

With a faster, more reliable, and fully traceable deployment process in place, ABW is better positioned to support business growth while holding the line on operational excellence. What started as an effort to reduce deployment effort became a broader improvement in efficiency, reliability, and collaboration across the software delivery lifecycle, and a platform for ABW's next steps in automation.
